No two sessions at Lance Hill Photography are the same. Lance specializes in high school senior portraits and families, but he is often taking business shots, portraits of children, pets, and even commercial events!
Due to the nature of custom photography and Lance's increasing demand in the Twin Cities, sessions book about 3 weeks to 3 months in advance. The peak season is about May through October, clients LOVE our outdoor work onsite!
Sessions typically take about an hour, some can be done in as little as 30 minutes. This is your custom portrait experience, we strive to make it as comfortable as possible.
What should we wear?
Clothing is a critical part of making a wonderful photograph. We love color...however, something simple and classically styled in a solid color also works well. Trendy and retro clothing can also add great impact to images and work well for certain clients. We encourage you to bring your favorite hat, scarf, knit sweater or linen clothing... textures and accessories create wonderful detail in photographs. If being photographed in a group, try to keep a similar theme to your outfit choices, using like colors and styles. We work to capture your expressions and relationships...don't let clothing get in the way of an already perfect subject. If you are unsure about clothing choices, feel free to bring multiple outfits, and we will be happy to guide you to which would work best for your session. Clothing changes are always welcome and subject to an additional charge.
To assist clients in making clothing choices, we have created constantly-added-to Pinterest boards of inspiration. Feel free to click on the links below to view them:
What happens after my session?
Images are edited, color-corrected and a few creative samples are made for your interpretation. Most images are ready to view within 2 weeks of a session date. You will have the option to post your images to the web, with a password-protected gallery. Posting a session to the web requires a $215 downpayment, $200 of which while go towards the final portrait order selection. This allows for family out of town to be a part of the decision-making process if they cannot be physically present for the in-studio ordering appointment that will take place.
What does the ordering process look like?
A typical ordering appointment lasts about an hour. We ask that the decision makers are present, as this is when the final poses and portrait sizes are decided upon. One thing highly recommended, is taking a picture of your walls in your home, so we can help you visualize your portraits in your space!
Some helpful insights on sizing for personal wall decor. Often clients ponder how to make the best placement of their portrait, and this varies from one location to the next, and of course, the actual image itself.
If the installation is in a hallway or an album, viewed from a close perspective, 10 and 14 inch dimensions are not uncommon. When viewed from a distance, some guidelines include 2x the diagonal, similar to how ANY art is viewed on a wall.
The idea is to be able to enjoy the image from the normal distance it is viewed at, not have to walk closer to appreciate the expression and feeling it evokes.
